Prevent hair loss with these simple, effective, and affordable tips!
If you go through my inbox, you will find over 100 DMs/Emails that start with “CAMELIA, HOW CAN I PREVENT HAIR LOSS??” so it’s only fitting that I dedicate a whole blog post to my most asked question!
DISCLAIMER: Before I start with my tips, I should first add that I am not a doctor. I am only sharing my advice in which I feel very confident in only because it has helped me and other people in preventing excessive hair loss. If you are facing severe hair loss, please contact your doctor to seek professional medical advice.

Now we can start with the good stuff! Understand that hair loss is completely normal and that everyone goes through it. It’s a part of life & aging whether we like it or not. And everyone loses hair, some more than others. This may come to you as a shock, but it is completely NORMAL to lose 50-150 hair strands per day! Crazy right?! I really hope that eased some of your stress and helped you realize that you may just be experiencing the same amount of hair fall as everyone else (including me)!
Anyways, let’s start with the following affordable & effective tips that have personally helped me & others in reducing hair fall.
1. Don’t Panic, and Relax!
Easier said than done.. this one will annoy some people because they might have been expecting to read some type of miracle remedy to help prevent hair fall. However, the thing is that stress is one of the main causes to hair loss! Stress is one of the worst things you could ever do to your body. And stressing about your hair loss will only make matters worse which is why we need to relax & relieve our body from all the tension and distress. I know it’s hard not to stress about life because we are all going through our own challenges. However, there are ways you can reduce your stress. I like to think of it as if we’re all acting in our own movie called our “Life”, and in between takes, we need to take a breather and calm ourselves before getting back to filming our movie! Ways I like to de-stress are doing yoga, taking a bath, pampering myself (face masks, getting nails done, etc), essential oils, spending time in nature, jogging, and listening to music.
Whatever makes you feel more at peace, do exactly that so that you can reduce the tension in your life! Not only will this have better effects on your hair, but your organs will work more properly leading to a healthy mind, body, and… SCALP! (Which means more hair growth/strength, YAY!)
2. Essential Oils!
Finally an effective hair remedy that helps me and most people with reducing excessive hair fall and increasing hair growth.
Let me first list out my top favorite essential oils that I personally think are the strongest in encouraging hair growth and preventing hair fall (I have researched a lot about the different types of essential oils, and these ones have given me the best results).
- 100% pure & natural Peppermint essential oils
- 100% pure & natural Rosemary essential oils
- 100% pure and natural Lavender essential oils
- 100% pure & natural Tea Tree essential oils
These are my top three favorite essential oils to use on my hair. They all have a tingly sensation which help promote blood flow which will lead to faster hair growth! After applying masks that involve essential oils, you will immediately feel the sensation of these oils on your scalp which means that it’s working!
Use 4-5 drops of any one of the essential oils I mentioned along with 2 tbsp of a carrier oil (olive oil coconut oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, etc). ALWAYS use a carrier oil with your essential oils because using these essential oils alone will be too strong and harsh for your hair to handle! Personally, I use 2 tbsp coconut oil (frequently) with 5 drops of rosemary.
Massage remedy to scalp for 5 minutes, put hair into bun and apply a plastic bag over hair. Leave mask in hair for up to 2 hours. Afterwards, rinse off in shower and continue with shampoo+conditioner. Continue this remedy for up to 1-2 times a week for one month and see results within that month of less hair fall and faster hair growth!
3. Use A Wooden Brush!
Most people panic over hair loss because of the amount of hair they find on their brushes. There are many brushes out there that help “detangle”, “defrizz” and “soften” hair but end up ripping hair off in the process. Plastic and metallic brushes are harsh and pull on the scalp causing more hair strands to fall out. On the other hand, wooden brushes are gentler and reduce hair fall by promoting more growth due to the wood that encourages blood circulation. When buying a wooden brush, make sure that it is 100% made out of pure wood. I personally use TekBrushes wooden brush on my hair because of the purity in the wood.
4. Stay Away From Chemicals!
I cannot stress this enough. I know I get repetitive about these types of things but that’s only because it’s especially important! Most people use hair care products filled with chemicals and acids which will end up stripping your hair away in the long term.
I’m not going to tell you to throw away your expensive haircare products because I’m not going to lie.. I sometimes use shampoo that contains sulfate even though I religiously advise against it. Honestly, it doesn’t hurt using heat on your hair once in awhile or using inorganic haircare products. HOWEVER. if you’re using these products DAILY, that’s when it will start to thin out your hair in the long run.
Instead, use natural and organic haircare products daily since they contain mild ingredients instead of the harsh chemicals other brands use. Here are some of my favorite natural hair care brands!
Keep in mind that organic brands can sometimes be a little more expensive than the products you find at the drugstore since 100% natural products are VERY rare to find nowadays. Keep in mind that your health and wellness is worth it and more valuable than anything, so please treat yourself to the high quality brands out there.
Here are some of my tips in finding the perfect natural hair care brand/product:
Always do your research before buying a product and read the ingredients (stay away from products that mention “paraben”, “sodium chloride”, “alcohol”, and other words that sound acidic)!
I like buying from hair care brands that are vegan because this means that they don’t test on animals which also means that the product doesn’t involve any ingredients that may be hazardous!
